Mattia Binotto was born to Italian parents on 3rd November 1969, in Lausanne, Switzerland. He spent his childhood watching car races with his grandfather, an avid Ferrari fan. Coming from a family of immigrants with roots in Italy, he used to support the Ferrari team as it gave him a sense of national identity.
He completed his early education in Lausanne and did his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 1994. He later chose to return to his roots, so he went on to do a master’s in automobile engineering at Enzo Ferrari” Engineering Department DIEF in Modena, Italy.
